Scouting Misadventures!

This summer seems to be flying by...anyone feel that way too? This week has been crazy! Jake left for scout camp on Monday. He knew it was going to be tough, but he couldn't wait! He loves hiking and camping. It was a major hike in and Jake's pack was over 50 pounds. They were to hike to a new camp everyday. They are supposed to come home Friday. Yesterday I got a call from a friend who said that Jake was coming home from camp with her husband and 2 other boys. I was worried, but she said he was okay but she wasn't sure why he was coming home. It turns out that on the way up to the Uintah's (they were going to Granddaddy Basin) the boy sitting next to Jake in the car turned and out of the blue threw up all over Jake! By Tuesday evening Jake and the other boy in the car besides the one who threw up, started throwing up and another scout too. Jake was so grateful to be home where he could get in a bath and put on clean clothes. He is also covered in atleast 100 mosquito bites! I've never seen so many, and they are giant welts. He said he used the bug spray and used some that someone else had that had the highest Deet you can buy,, but he was still eaten alive. Today he is on Benadryl and covering his bites with hydracortisone creme. The Pharmacist said Jake needs to take a Vitamin B1 supplement if he goes where there are a lot of mosquitoes because it will repel them. Jake is such a sweet kid and obviously has "sweet" blood too!
